Clean Ocean Action

Wasting our Waters Away

"Wasting our Waters Away" is a special project of Clean Ocean Action.  It was started in 1999 when COA set out to answer the seemingly simple questions, "What is being discharged into the ocean from wastewater treatment facilities, and how much?"  This led to an in-depth study of 17 NJ facilities that discharge over 170 million gallons per day of treated wastewater directly into the Atlantic Ocean.

Clean Ocean Action prepared a technical report and citizens' guide as a result of the research, and continues to research and prepare documents on wastewater issues.  (See COA's wastewater publications).

The links in the left menu provide detailed information including COA's comments on NJ ocean discharges of wastewater and wastewater re-use, as well as, the Wastewater Basics and how you can be part of the solution.
