Science and Policy Intern

This internship position with Clean Ocean Action (COA) is an exciting opportunity for a college student to gain valuable experience in marine science and policy research and programs. The intern will become an integral part of the COA staff, help to develop strategies, and participate in field activities.  This intern should demonstrate experience in environmental science, environmental regulations, policy, computer skills, and the ability to work as part of a team.  Course work and experience in marine science, chemistry, oceanography and environmental science/environmental chemistry is desired.

 

Water quality is one of the key focuses of COA’s work. The Science and Policy Intern will be at the forefront of this work, as COA analyzes water quality data in specific waterbodies for pollutants, determines and advocates for the most protective standards available, and ensures that public safety and ecosystem health are maintained. This work will contain a rapid learning curve, and will provide a basic understanding of water quality standards in estuarine and marine environments.

 

The summer internship is a full-time position and is located at COA’s office within the Gateway National Recreation Area—Sandy Hook, NJ.  It is essential to the success of the program and the overall internship that the applicant lives within close proximity to the office. No housing or transportation is provided.  Office hours are 9am to 5pm, Monday – Friday.  Monthly stipend and travel expenses (excluding commuting) are paid.  College credit (arranged by the student with the university/college) is available.  Start date is as early in May as possible and end date is as late in August as possible.
